"This beautifully shot, edited and directed film shows the tearing of the wall beetween the audience and the stage and the extremely direct, almost aggressive challenging of the crowd to go beyond the rock'n'roll ritual and make it their own. When the gig is over, these passionate, dedicated, beastly, tenacious and heartfelt, honest guys put the stage, backstage and beds in order and clean up the toilet. Captured scenes are challenging the standard rock documentary form, since they don't perpetuate the myth of a rocker. This is no reality show. It is the real thing."

(Grossman Fantastic Film & Wine Festival)

"Showcasing a rock group on the humble side of the scene, this doco goes behind the scenes to explore what motivates 6ft Hick - an Aussie rock group who've become an underground institution. While they may be musically in- tune, they're certainly offbeat - the lads, brothers Geoff and Ben Corbett, drink beer from boots and have been known to bloodlet at shows. A candid insight into the careers of some witty and modest dudes."

"Cult Brisbane band 6ft Hick has built a fervent underground following the hard way – one beer- soaked venue at a time. Over 15 years of back-breaking touring, the band's raw sound and outrageous stage antics have propelled their live show into the realm of urban legend. "Notes from the Underground" follows the boys in a tour that – though it barely breaks even – embodies the very soul of rock."
- Brisbane International Film Festival

For 15 years Queensland band 6ft Hick has been frightening audiences and pulverising eardrums with their lacerating brand of rockabilly punk. They sweat. They drink beer from boots. They eat the contents of ashtrays.  Fronted by brothers Geoff and Ben Corbett, their hyperkinetic gigs feature circus-like stage exploits that bring to mind both Iggy Pop's creepy plasticity and the ecstasies of Angus Young in mid guitar-orgasm. So why do they do it? As this doco shows, it's certainly not for the money. Following the band through an exhausting European tour, filmmakers Marty Moynihan and Karina Astrup show a group whose primary mission is so simple it sounds almost unfashionable: to make pure and uncompromising rock music.  "We certainly don't wanna be the next f---in' big thing," Geoff says. "I don't think we've got the time.”
- Sydney Morning Herald

Off stage, the band are mild mannered, humble and extremely likable. More importantly, they're passionate about their music, even if they may never be commercially successful. Whether or not you like their music, this is still an entertaining, honest and insightful documentary about the indie rock scene and one of Australia's finest garage rock bands. It's funny, and even poignant at times. Strap yourself in for a wild, fun ride.

WT OS International Film Festival

"This behind-the-scenes music documentary reveals the messy, all-too human face of the low-budget music scene in stark contrast to the perceived glamour of an internationally touring rock band.

“Following Queensland preachers of noise 6ft Hick on their travels through Australia and Europe, this film shows what drives these musicians to again and again deliver shows that are outbursts of fierce raw power.”
